Know Before You Buy

Every RV Has Problems.

Every single one Scott has inspected — new or used — has had issues. Some minor. Some expensive. Often the seller genuinely doesn't know they exist. Manufacturers are in a hurry to build them. Dealerships are in a hurry to sell them. A pre-purchase inspection puts you ahead of everyone in that chain.

New units are not exempt. It's common for a brand-new RV to have more than 10 issues that need to be addressed before delivery. The good news: dealers move fast to fix things when a sale is on the line.

The same-day report covers everything: exterior roof, sidewalls, slide-outs and undercarriage, every seal and seam — then inside: ceiling, walls, floor, cabinetry and furniture, plus a full systems check of electrical, plumbing, appliances and slide-out operation. You'll know exactly what you're getting — and exactly what to negotiate.

About Scott Tye

Scott Tye is an NRVIA Certified RV Inspector and RVTAA Certified RV Technician. Prior to inspecting RVs, Scott inspected homes and served as an aerial survey pilot. That background makes inspections come naturally — pre-flight checklists, instrument procedures, and methodical processes are all designed to reduce human error, and the same discipline carries directly into every RV inspection.

With hundreds of inspections completed, Scott has learned that the hardest part isn't finding what's wrong — it's recognizing what's missing.

RVing is also a lifestyle Scott enjoys personally. He travels the country in a classic diesel pusher, and owning and living in a coach is the best way to understand the real hazards and pitfalls buyers face in the purchasing process.

Scott serves Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding areas.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I get a new RV inspected if I'm buying from a dealership?

Yes — and this may be the most important inspection of all. RVs are built quickly on an assembly line and shipped to dealerships, where staff rarely have the time to inspect each unit in detail before it goes on the lot. Factory defects, missing seals, untested appliances, and improper installations are common findings on brand-new RVs. If you don't catch these issues before you take delivery, you'll be spending your first year of ownership making trips back to the service department — and fighting warranty claims. A pre-purchase inspection before you sign gives you documentation of any defects and the opportunity to have the dealer fix them before you drive home.

What does the inspection include — and what is in the report?

Scott inspects every major system on the RV: roof and all seals, exterior body and panels, slideouts and awnings, electrical (12V and 120V shore power), plumbing (fresh water, grey tank, black tank), HVAC (air conditioning and furnace), propane system and all LP appliances, water heater, generator (if equipped), chassis and suspension (motorhomes), engine and transmission (motorhomes), tires, leveling system, all interior surfaces, windows, doors, and cabinetry. After the inspection you receive a detailed written report covering every system and every finding — delivered the same day.

How do I set up a Pre-Purchase Inspection with my dealership?

Call your salesperson and let them know that you will be sending your independent RV Inspector to inspect the RV before you purchase. Agree on a date and time, and request that the RV be hooked up to water and power at inspection time.

When do I receive my inspection report?

You receive your detailed inspection report the same day as your inspection. The report includes written findings, photos of any issues identified, and a clear summary so you can make a confident decision quickly — especially important when you're at a dealership with a purchase deadline.

Can I be present during the inspection?

Absolutely — and we encourage it. Being present lets you see issues firsthand, ask questions as we go, and leave with a complete understanding of the RV's condition. If you're new to RVing, this is also a great opportunity to learn where everything is and how all the systems work before you're on the road.

Are you certified and insured?

Yes. Scott is NRVIA certified (National Recreational Vehicle Inspectors Association) and RVTAA certified (RV Technicians Association of America). He carries professional liability insurance. Inspections follow NRVIA standards and are completely independent — no relationship with any dealership or seller.

How far do you travel for inspections?

We serve Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and surrounding areas, covering most of the DFW metroplex including surrounding cities and communities. If you're unsure whether your location is in our service area, call us at (972) 362-4500 and we'll confirm.

What if the inspection finds problems?

Finding problems is exactly the point. If the inspection reveals significant issues, you have several options: negotiate with the seller to have repairs completed before purchase, renegotiate the purchase price to account for repair costs, or walk away from the deal entirely. You're never obligated to purchase an RV after an inspection — and a good inspection may be what saves you from a costly mistake.
